Ausseerland

A special place

Ausseerland, also known as Styrian Salzkammergut, has a lot to offer in terms of traditions, landscape and lifestyle. Perhaps that is why for many it is a place they long to spend their holidays and make their temporary home.

Ausseerland comprises the districts of Altaussee, Bad Aussee, Bad Mitterndorf and Grundlsee, and the residents make it what it is. They embody the traditions and customs and appreciate the landscape and the particular lifestyle of this special place.

Ausseerland - beautiful mountains and lakes

The area is characterised by the interplay between mountains and lakes – blue treasures of cool water, away from mass tourism and with limited boat transport, and mountain peaks and steep cliff faces appearing to jut out of the water with striking rock formations, surrounded by meadows and forests.

Passion for traditions and customs is also part of this lifestyle. Music, dancing and traditions take place even if no one is watching, because they are part of everyday life. Dirndls, Lederhosen and dress coats are worn daily, not just for special occasions. That is why this area also still hosts a large number of craftspeople – from milliners to fabric printers, goldsmiths, tailors, Lederhosen makers and many more. And that is why music also ‘plays’ a big role – people here grow up to the sounds of violins, accordions and bass.
