Artists At The Salzkammergut
Inspiringly Beautiful: The Austrian Salzkammergut Region
Literati, intelligentsia and artists in the Salzkammergut Region create a fascinating, varied and shimmering picture of this beautiful Austrian region. Hiking on the “Via Artis” hiking path and follow the tracks of the artists of the Salzkammergut.
At least since the Austrian imperial household discovered the Salzkammergut Region for their summer residence, intelligentsia, literati and artists have been drawn to the Ausseerland and the Salzkammergut Region. Famous names of the past find an artistic continuation within contemporary art and cultures.
Discovering The Artists Of The Salzkammergut At The “Via Artis” Path
The artist’s path, the “Via Artis” gives a first impression of the artists of the Salzkammergut on a distance of approx. 4 kilometres. Start with an approx. two hour walking tour through the Altaussee Kurpark garden. You will then pass the former Konigsgarten Villa, in which Friedrich Torberg took residence and worked time after time. Directly at your Hotel Seevilla a station of the “Via Artis” reminds of the composer Johannes Brahms. Two of his creations premiered at the former Villa Wagner, today’s Hotel Seevilla.
On the Brahms-Weg path you continue onwards towards the town centre, leaving the church behind and even from far you will see the Adrian or Wassermann Villa. The German romancer Jakob Wassermann lived and died here at the Altausseer Lake. After a short stroll along the lake promenade you will take a left into the Arneth-weg path. A narrow pathway leads you after 1.55 metres to the view point: “GrosserKünstlerblick” (Great Artist’s View Point), which is dedicated to the artist Christl Kerry.
From here the path leads leisurely upwards. You will reach the town part of Posern with villas dating back to the Monarchy and the Romantic era. Via the Kurhaus you will return back to Hotel Seevilla, enriched with interesting knowledge about the artists of the Salzkammergut region and the Ausseerland.
